Mapping Memory: A Visual Travel Journal Part 1 & 2
Follow me as I take my sketchbook out into the world to draw, collage, and paint. I will share my journey on location and in the studio working with a range of mixed media material including encaustic, R&F Drawing Oils™, R&F Pigment Sticks®, encaustic gesso, graphite, watercolor, collage, ink, graphite, and more.
This class is about creating the freedom for yourself to make art that captures your particular experience of a place and time. It is about being present with yourself and looking deeply. I am interested in process - not perfection. Making a visual travel journal is something that is available to any artist at all levels of experience. It can be a fun and expansive experience that encourages experimentation and risk taking.
In part one, I will take you with me on location to Scotland and Sweden for a mini artist getaway. I will cover what I pack for supplies and why, share work tips and strategies, and discuss setting up a portable artist studio in your hotel room. In part two, I will share how I create a unique cover for my sketchbook using encaustic medium, paint, gesso, and R&F Pigment Sticks®. This will take place in my studio in Westbrook, Maine.
My hope is that in sharing my own journey and process, you will be encouraged to create a mini artist getaway of your own - taking your studio out into the world and discovering how to convey the essence of your unique experience within the pages of your artist journal.
