Silke Wieland
About Silke
Silke Wieland (1975 in Biberach, Germany) is an encaustic and mixed media artist whose work blends tradition with innovation, exploring layers as spaces of memory, identity, and dialogue.
Artistically active since 2001, she has developed her practice through studies with renowned mentors. Since 2014, she has been working in her own studio near Munich, where she also teaches mixed media and encaustic painting.
Her artistic path has been marked by solo exhibitions such as white space makes me happy (2018, Landsberg am Lech) and ECHOES (2022, Munich), as well as a residency exhibition (2023, Untermeitingen). Her encaustic series stitch, which layers cross-stitch patterns beneath wax, evokes both personal nostalgia and cultural memory, bridging past and present.
Alongside her studio practice, Silke brings extensive professional experience in communications, analytics, and leadership. She is also a psychoanalytic art therapist and a certified creativity trainer.
Silke is a member of the International Encaustic Artists (IEA) and European Encaustic Artists (EEA) and lives and works near Munich, Germany, where she continues to create, exhibit, and teach.
About her work, she writes:
My work explores layers – both visible and invisible – using encaustic and mixed media to create depth, transparency, and dialogue. Encaustic is my ikigai: a medium that unites craftsmanship, intuition, and personal expression while continuously challenging me to push its boundaries.
Themes of identity, inner voices, memory, and connection run through my practice, where I balance order and chaos, silence and resonance. I often integrate text, handwriting, and fragments of Sütterlin script, embedding language as hidden reflections within the work.
Crossing borders between art, teaching, self-reflection and analysis has become part of my creative identity, enriching both my life and my art. Each piece is both invitation and conversation – a search for clarity within the noise and for the subtle threads that connect us.

Encaustic Minimalist
In this workshop you will explore encaustic painting through reduction, focus, and intention. Working with a limited set of materials, you will create deeply personal series on small-format panels. Image and text become your own visual language – quiet, subtle, and meaningful.
At the core of this course is image and text transfer onto wax. You will learn how to layer, embed, and manipulate surfaces so that your imagery and words become an integral part of the encaustic work. By working minimally, you give space to clarity, reflection, and your individual artistic voice.
This course invites you to slow down, sharpen your perception, and discover how working with less can lead to greater depth and impact – wether you are deepening your encaustic practice or seeking a more intentional, focused approach to making art.
