About Shari

Shari Levine has been a dedicated encaustic artist for seven years. Her encaustic paintings, encaustic jewelry and encaustic wooden vessels are displayed in several galleries in the Pacific Northwest. She has a master’s degree in education, and has led many open studios, demos and workshops. Her work embodies a philosophy of mindfulness, connection, and hope, showing that creativity can be both a personal haven and a source of inspiration for others.

At the heart of Shari’s work is the desire to connect. Her paintings are deeply personal, yet they speak to universal experiences of wonder, contemplation, and renewal. She believes that art has the power to touch lives, to inspire reflection, and to create a sense of shared understanding. Her work embodies the idea that beauty is not just an object to behold but a bridge to a deeper human connection.

Beyond her paintings, Shari has pioneered a process for transforming encaustic painting techniques into wearable art, creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that echo the luminosity and texture of her paintings. Shari created an online encaustic jewelry class that’s been very well-received. Teaching allows Shari to extend the joy and meditative focus she experiences in her own practice to others, creating a ripple effect of artistic inspiration.

“As an encaustic artist, I’m drawn to the rich vibrancy and brilliant luminosity that can be achieved through this dreamy and ethereal medium. My paintings reflect the beauty I see everywhere – the turquoise and aquamarine water of the Mediterranean Sea, the crashing ocean off the coast of Ireland and the delicate petals of a flower in bloom. Painting fills me with a sense of peace and joy that I love to share with others. I find that I can extend that sense of well-being outward to the people and world issues I care for deeply and approach them with renewed focus and presence. I believe we are brought together by our collective human experiences There are so many ways we can connect with each other based on our shared humanity. We all value our friends and family; we all need to love and be loved; we all need to be understood and appreciated for who we are. We also value what’s beautiful to us, and in that way, art can be an amazing catalyst for bringing people together. Making genuine connections with people by creating art that truly speaks to them is what inspires me in my art and in my life.”

Shari Levine is an award-winning artist who displays her art at several northwest galleries, art shows, interior design stores, open studios, demos and art leagues. She’s been accepted into juried international encaustic shows and had a painting in the permanent collection at the Encaustic Art Institute in Santa Fe. She attended the International Encaustic Artist retreats in Morro Bay, CA and Mulraney, Ireland, as well as a study-abroad in France. She’s been an enthusiastic member of PWF since its inception.

Encaustic Jewelry

Have you ever wondered if you could combine your passion for jewelry with your love for encaustics? Me too! I began researching how I could make encaustic jewelry and discovered a process that’s so fun, and the results are so beautiful that I wanted to share it with all of you. I take my inspiration from nature and gemstones like turquoise, lapis and Malecite. I love the variety of colors that swirl through these beautiful stones. I’m also inspired by translucent flower petals and leaves. But, of course, sources of inspiration are all around us and the possibilities are endless!

In this video, I’ll share the process I developed for transforming encaustic painting techniques into wearable art, creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that echo the luminosity and texture of encaustic paintings. My hope is to offer encaustic artists, not only the opportunity to learn the intricate techniques of encaustic jewelry-making, but to develop a community of creatives to share their innovations.

Encaustic and Wooden Vessels

I’m so intrigued by encaustics that I’m always looking for ways to combine it with other compatible mediums. Encaustic and wood? Why not?! As encaustic artists, we often work with wooden substrates, but the wood is rarely showcased. I love the intricate patterns in the grains of wood, so I partner with a wood turner to see how I can combine his art with mine. He creates beautiful wooden bowls, vases and plaques for me with gullies carved out for the encaustics. I paint them with encaustics to create a new art form that highlights the wood grain pattern and the vessel’s shape, while also providing the encaustics with a place to shine. The possibilities with this new art form are endless. This video will demonstrate the materials and the process I developed. I can’t wait to see what you create!
